How to Play Wordle In One
One colored clue. One empty row. Find a five-letter word that agrees with every tile.
Wordle In One is a deduction game: the clue has already been scored, and your job is to work backward from those colors. You can take as many guesses as you need. A wrong guess does not add another colored row, so the original clue remains your source of information.

Start with the three colors
- Green: the letter belongs in that exact position.
- Yellow: the answer contains the letter, but it must go somewhere else.
- Gray: that copy of the letter is not needed. If another copy is colored, count the colored copies carefully.
A worked example
The green tiles give you W _ _ S E. The answer has an O, but the yellow tile says it cannot be in the third position. It therefore fits in the second position. H is absent. WORSE satisfies all of those conditions.
Type WORSE using your keyboard or the on-screen keys and press Enter. If you mistype a letter, use Backspace. You can also paste a five-letter word into the game.
Repeated letters: count copies, not just letter names
Each green or yellow tile represents a copy of a letter in the answer. A gray copy does not cancel a colored copy. For example, if a clue contains two Es, with one green and one gray, the answer contains exactly one E in the green position.
If both copies are colored, the answer needs at least two copies. Apply the position rules to each copy separately: green stays put and yellow must move. Checking these counts is often the last step between a plausible word and a valid solution.
What counts as a correct answer?
This website accepts any five-letter word in its dictionary that recreates the clue’s complete color pattern. Some puzzles have more than one valid solution. You do not need to find one particular hidden word, and an alternative can be correct even if it is not the first word that came to mind.
“Word not in dictionary” means the entry is not accepted here. “That word doesn’t match every clue” means it is recognized, but at least one position or letter count conflicts with the clue. Neither message ends the puzzle.
Daily and Unlimited
Daily offers five shared puzzles. Use the numbered buttons to move between them. A fresh set appears at midnight UTC. Solving all five opens your results, including tries, time, and a share button that does not reveal your words.
Unlimited plays on the homepage with a game ID in the address. The large New Game button loads another puzzle with its own game link. Reloading that link keeps the same puzzle; your saved progress stays in this browser. Sharing the link lets someone else attempt the same puzzle with their own progress.
Read your statistics
A puzzle is started when you begin entering a guess. A try is a distinct, recognized word you submit; incomplete entries, unknown words, and repeated submissions of the same word do not add tries. The average includes solved puzzles only. A daily streak requires all five daily puzzles on consecutive UTC dates.
Your statistics and unfinished rounds are stored on this device. They are not linked to an NYT account. Clearing this site’s browser data removes them, and older results that were never saved cannot be reconstructed.
A useful solving routine
- Keep the green positions fixed.
- Place the yellow letters somewhere different.
- Exclude gray letters while allowing the colored copies of repeats.
- Check every position and letter count before submitting.
